Making sure your blogs permalinks are set.

This is an area that a lot of new bloggers make when they start a blog. Wordpress sets the default for permalinks to a /?p=123…etc. format. This is terrible for SERP’s and doesn’t do a lot to help other people know what the page is about.

So in order to change this in Wordpress you need to go to options> permalinks and set it to a more friendly setting. I choose the custom setting and use the format /%category%/%postname%/. Then just save the update and your done.

So what do you do if you have not done this and your in like your sixth month of your blog? Well there is a cool plugin that will amend your previous posts permalinks without breaking the links you currently have. It is called Dean’s permalink migration plugin for Wordpress. Its really simple to use. Just download and activate in your plugins and then click on options. Click on permalink migration and enter your old permalink structure. Then go to the permalink tab and enter in the new permalink structure that you want to use. Then your all done.

Doing this will help get your site more traffic from the SERP gods. Till next time.
